K-GenU: The role of the private sector in creating opportunities for youth

On October 15, 2026, the German-Kosovar Chamber of Commerce (OEGJK) organized a roundtable discussion within the framework of the Kosovo Generation Unlimited (K-GenU) program, with the participation of representatives from the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo (APRK), UNICEF in Kosovo, other institutions, and the private sector. The focus of the meeting was the role of employers in identifying the potential of youth and creating opportunities for their first professional experience.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the development and expansion of the program, as well as the role of the digital platform in connecting young people with internship opportunities. A comparative analysis of employers' requirements and young people's applications by fields and departments was also presented, aiming to assess the alignment between companies' needs and applicants' interests. Special attention was paid to the inclusion of young people who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET), as well as youth from marginalized groups.

Institutional representatives, human resources experts, and representatives of participating companies exchanged experiences and views on engaging interns, emphasizing the importance of guiding and supporting them in their first professional steps. The discussions also highlighted the role of internships in developing youth skills and creating opportunities for companies to identify new talents for potential future engagement.

The program is implemented in partnership between UNICEF Kosovo, the Ministry of Labor, Family and War Liberation Values, and the German-Kosovar Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Austrian Development Agency.
